SCIENCE LAB - THE POWER OF MAGNETISM

Here we are learning about the special power that all magnets possess - the ability to hold and move other pieces of metal that they are attracted to. We learned all magnets have two poles, a north pole and a south pole. We discovered that only different poles will attract one another while same poles will repel one another. The children especially loved being able to actually feel the magnets as they repelled against each other. No matter how hard they tried, no one could get the magnets to touch!

The children then teamed up and worked together with magnetic pieces to build all types of different structures. They could have sat and worked at this station for hours! All you need is a cookie sheet and some magnets and magically, you have the best toy in the world!

SCIENCE IS FUN!

EARTH DAY 2014

On Earth Day 2014, the children stayed busy learning all about plants and their importance. We talked about the different parts of plants and what they do. Then each child had the chance to plant seeds. As of yesterday, many of the seeds have begun to sprout. The look of amazement on the children's faces when they see their baby plants is priceless!

RAINY DAYS AND TUESDAYS.....

We've had a lot of rain lately and have been stuck  inside. With conditions like this, it would be easy for the children to go a little stir crazy. They love the playground  and hate it when we can't go out and play. In order keep young minds and bodies constructively busy, I must make sure there are a variety of organized things for them to do in the classroom.

 Potato heads are  fun !

The children love playing with stickers! They don't even realize they are building their fine motor strength as well as learning how to spell their names.
Of course, we also spend some time copying our name. This helps us get those finger muscles under control as well as improve hand/eye coordination. These are just a few of the things we do at school. It's good to be busy!

SCIENCE LAB - MAGNIFICATION : MAKING LITTLE THINGS LOOK BIG

In our most recent science lab, we learned about the power of magnification. We used several different tools to make things look bigger including magnifying glasses, a microscope, view masters, and a telescope. It's been amazing to see how this age group really takes to everything and anything that has to do with science!

Spring is Finally Here!

It seems as if SPRING has finally found us and is here to stay!
To honor it's arrival, the children made a bird's nest with two baby birds in it.
SPRING, we love you!
