SPACE - A GREAT PLACE TO VISIT

Last week, we spent our time learning about outer space and the things that are found there. We added to our bulletin board each day as we studied the Earth, stars including the sun, the moon and astronauts. The children really loved this unit.
On the day that we talked about astronauts, we tried some of the food they actually take into space. It was hard and dry and warm, but tasted exactly like ice cream! The class could not get enough of it. YUM!

We also worked everyday to make a book about the things we learned. Take some time to let your child show what they've learned.

PUPPET PLAY

Playing with puppets is a great way to encourage a child's imagination. The different characters open up all kinds of story lines for the children to act out. Puppets also help to develop social skills like cooperation. Puppets are both fun and educational.

Oh, Canada

Last week we spent our time visiting our neighbors to the north - CANADA!

After making our version of the Canadian flag and learning all about the maple leaf, we sampled some different maple syrup items. We had leaf shaped maple cookies and, the following day - pancakes with maple syrup. YUMMY!  We also focused on some of the animals found in that part of the world, including the moose, the beaver and the bald eagle! What a fun and educational week.

WORKING ON OUR PENCIL GRIP

Having the proper pencil grip is VERY important. I would like all of "my" children to leave my classroom knowing how to properly hold a writing utensil. This will make pre-K so much easier for them (and you). Presently, we are using the grip helper shown in the following picture. I purchased several of them on line, but I think you can get them at Barnett's school supply store on DeRenne. Ask me if you want to buy a few for your child.

OUR MELTING SNOWMEN

With Savannah's weather being so unpredictable, we decided to decorate our placemats with melting snowmen. Here, you can see we used white paint as the melting snow.

Then we added all of the parts of the snowman, all over the place, so it would look like they are melting. The children really loved this project.

WORKING AND PLAYING TOGETHER

Here are some pictures that I took before the holiday break. They show some of the children in various stages of sharing and cooperation. As the saying goes,
"The more you share, the more you have."

Stringing blocks....

Until we get them ALL strung!
Lining up ALL the trains!

Playing school, while we are at school!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! WE WELCOME 2014!

AS WE WELCOME 2014, WE ALSO WELCOME FRIENDS, BOTH OLD AND NEW, BACK TO OUR CLASSROOM.

We were all ready and happy to be back at school. Some of us were even feeling a little silly.
HERE WE COME 2014!
