BUILDING THOSE FINE MOTOR MUSCLES

Some of the boys in our class show how easy and fun it can be to workout those fine motor muscles. All you need it a large piece of firm foam core and some pipe cleaners and golf tees. The boys could have spent forever sticking these items in the foam and then taking them back out. Providing the children with a few basic items forces them to rely on their imaginations to create their own fun. Of course, they never even realized my reasoning for this activity - STRONGER HAND AND FINGER MUSCLES!

Science Lab 2 - The States of Matter

In our second science lab, we learned all about two of the states that matter can take - solid and liquid. The children were very attentive and we have discussed solids and liquids everyday since this lab.
I'm sure all of the children would agree the best part of the lab was when we made our own Non-Newtonian liquid. This is a mixture that can act both like a liquid and a solid depending on how fast a solid piece of matter moves through it - like quicksand. The children loved getting their hands dirty and turning the mixture into a solid and then watching it turn back into a liquid. Hands on is a great way for children to learn.

MRS. KNUDSEN'S MESS

I had a little accident at school the other day. I "accidentally" spilled a bunch of wooden beads on the floor! What a mess. I asked the children if they would help me clean up the beads, and of course, they said they would. I told them thank you, but in order to pick up the beads, they could not use their fingers! I gave each child a pair of over-sized tweezers and told them they had to use them to pick up the beads. What a fun way to strengthen little fingers.

Everyone really worked hard at this task until the room was all cleaned up!
What a great group of helpers.
