GETTING READY FOR EASTER

Here we are starting to work on the bags we will use at our Easter Egg Hunt and Party. We can't wait to go over to Wiley's grandma's house and play!! We are so ready to hunt for eggs. One of our moms even brought in a healthy snack that looks like the Easter Bunny!

SCIENCE LAB #7

THE SCIENCE OF WATER ABSORPTION

In science lab #7, we learned that water is absorbed when it becomes part of an object and no longer stands alone. We discussed what types of things (fabric, paper) are able to absorb water and the types of items that cannot (rocks, plastic). We demonstrated how water can actually move from one container to another through the power of absorption.

Our experimentation led us to the topic of the importance of water absorption in stain removal. Each child then made some marker stains of their own on a coffee filter and “washed” them clean!

OH MY, HOW WE'VE GROWN!

Look how much we have grown - both on the outside as well as on the inside. When we entered our new classroom in September as very young three year olds, we didn't know how to build with Lincoln Logs or even what a gear was. Now, by working together,we can build entire cities and link up gears and make them run! We can sort and catagorize by color, shape, size...the possibilites are endless. We can do anything!!!!!

We have come so far that we are even doing some work like the kids in "big school." Soon, that is exactly where we will be. My, we are growing up fast. Here you can see we are working on controlling our fine motor muscles by tracing dots that spell our names!

EGG-CELLENT DAYS

There has been a lot going on in the house keeping area recently. These children have been working hard here making enough food for everyone!
Meanwhile, some of the other children are working on decorating ovals (egg shapes) by using paint applied with mini-marshmallows.
Our finished product.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY

Here's hoping everyone had a wonderful St. Patrick's Day!

The WIPP St. Patrick's Day Parade was another huge success! Here we are in all of our parade finery. Thanks so much to the Jackson Family for supplying a float for our class to use. Everyone had a great time!

THE POWER OF WIND

In our Science Experiment #6, The Power of Wind, we learned that wind is actually just moving air. Sometimes it is gentle and sometimes it has great power. Here are some pictures of us using the power of wind in our classroom. First we held races where we created our own wind and blew feathers from on end of the room to the other. The children loved this activity and were truly out of breath by the time it was over!

Then we blew through straws to create a "wind powered painting." These paintings are decorating our classroom door and look great.

SHAMROCKS AND RAINBOWS

March is here in full force and will certainly fly by.

We have been spending our days talking about upcoming St. Patrick's Day in Savannah and its symbols. Here we are working on coloring shamrocks and creating mosaic rainbows.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR. SEUSS

Today we celebrated Dr. Seuss' Birthday. We read some of the books that made him famous and did some hand print art to go along with them. The room was full of smiles as you can see from these pictures. Good Job Dr. Seuss! We love you!

MAGNETISM

This past week we seemed to be riding the weather rollercoaster and found ourselves stuck inside much of the time. We used this opportunity to work on architecture or perfect our cutting skills. Our newest student has been using this time to learn how U.S. children play, like how to play dress-up!
In science lab #5, we learned about magnetism. We used magnets to see what types of objects they would attract. We saw that magnets have power, or a magnetic force. We also learned that all magnets have two poles, a north and a south, and that if you try to put two like poles together, they will repel one another.
Finally, we used magnets and tested their force on different objects in the classroom. We even used magnets to paint our March placemats.
