ALL ABOUT SPACE

This week we have learned all about space and created our very own books about space.  While creating our books is fun, we don't really know what all we are learning and doing.  Mrs. Knudsen and Mrs. Southard are actually helping us learn to follow instructions, holding things with the correct grip, strengthening our hand muscles and our fingers.  Our teachers really are all about developing those fine motor skills!!!

We followed directions on which color we should use for each object:

We learned all about the planet Earth with the land, the sea and the clouds.  We made our own Earth with where we thought the sea, land and clouds were.  We used our fine motor skills again pulling the cotton balls apart with our pinchy fingers to create the clouds.  We also made sure we were using the correct grip while coloring with our crayons.

Page 2 will feature the Moon.  We learned all about the moon and how no one could live on the moon because there's no air.  Astronauts have been on the moon and walked around.  We also learned the moon is not a planet at all, but a really big rock called and asteroid.

Next came the Sun.  We learned that the Sun, like the moon, is not a planet.  The sun is a really big hot fiiery ball of gas.  No one can visit the sun because it's just way too hot and we would burn up!

And finally came the Stars.  We learned that stars aren't actually shaped like what we think.  The stars in the sky don't have 5 points like the ones we draw.  We thought that was really cool!

The last couple of days we have been "suiting up" in our Astronaut suits and blasting off to the moon.  This has been one of the best things to be a part of with our friends.  We all just laugh and laugh and love saying blastoff as loud as we can!  The picture below shows the excitement better than I could ever describe it!
